Dorm Room Essentials

Dorm Room Essentials

It’s that time again, back-to-school season! For a lot of you, that means you’re decorating a dorm room or know someone who is. This can feel daunting, so we’re here to simplify it. Today we’re sharing our top tips to remember when creating your home away from home.

Plan for a Small Space

First and foremost, be smart with how you utilize your space. Dorm rooms are typically tiny and can feel cramped if you don’t use your wall space to your advantage. Ladies, we know you’re not getting walk-in closets, but there is still hope! Take a look at some of these space-saving suggestions.

  • Space-Saving Hangers: These are a perfect way to clear up a room and organize clothes into categories. Get them from Amazon here.
  • Shoe Racks: It doesn’t have to be anything fancy - focus on functionality. Both Target and Walmart have affordable, easy-to-assemble options.
  • Three-Drawer Organizers: These are a great option if you don’t have enough space in your dresser or desk drawers.

Another fun idea is using your desk as a study spot AND vanity! Now (if you have a private bathroom), you don’t have to crowd it with your makeup and toiletries. There are plenty of multi-use storage options like this ottoman where you can store extra blankets, pillows, snacks, toiletries, etc. Keep everything tucked away and organized!

Add Pops of Your Personality

Your dorm is a great space to highlight your individual style and what makes you unique. Add art that speaks to you and ties your room together through Etsy, which has options for whatever vibe you’re looking to create. They’re reasonably priced and available for digital download. You can go to CVS or Walgreens to get them printed - both have a promotional code that will take off 30 percent or more of your purchase. You don’t need to break the bank to add joy to your space!

Make It Feel Like Home

A rug is a fabulous option and adds extra comfort to a somewhat cold space. There’s nothing worse than stepping onto a tile floor, especially during winter. You’ll be spending the majority of your time in this space, mingling or studying, so it is important it feels like home!

Make It Comfortable

The bedding you choose can make or break your dorm experience. Add a printed comforter to make your bedding stand out, or keep things neutral with a plain white duvet. Keep in mind the design aspect, but don’t forget about comfort! Getting home from a long day of classes and de-stressing in your cozy bed is one of life's greatest pleasures. If you take away one thing from this blog post, let it be this: invest in a good mattress topper. It’s worth it!
